4AD Calendars

Overview
After researching the 4AD record label, and the calendars and album covers that Vaughan Oliver designed, I was given a brief to listen to the Pixies and create a series of posters for a 12 month calendar with a extra month called "Jack" and a cover for the set inspired by the 4AD design process.
I listened to the first five albums produced by the Pixies, taking notes as I listened, and pulled out specific songs that interested me. From there, I took my notes and brainstormed ideas then started sketching the twelve months. Each month instead of being inspired by a specific song was inspired by a theme, so I could have a month be technically about one song or even two because I was specifically interested in what common imagery was popping up throughout the albums. Some of these ideas I focused on included the body, time, subconscious and conscious minds, and movement.
All images were originally created through analogue photography, and a couple were altered in Photoshop. The goal of the project was to make something as analogue as we can, and use Photoshop very minimally in ways that mimic darkroom techniques. I used adjustment layers to make double exposures, and utilized long-exposure camera techniques in others. I carefully created compositions with props and objects in others.
