Abstract Self Portrait
Overview
This series of prints was a response to a brief to make a self portrait without physically showing yourself. It is a monotype print done by adding ink to a plastic plate and removing parts of it. To represent myself I decided to focus on something that I tend to talk about—my love for nature and the environment.
I created a prairie scene, titled Gone Days, to represent the passion I have for environmental conservation and preserving Illinois prairies.
The second print, Wings, is a pattern made from looking at the patterns on bug wings. I find bugs fascinating; I love to learn about different bugs, and look at them, so I decided to reference what I like about them.
The third print, A Night Sky, is probably the least connected to me. I found a bunch of old prints done in similar style of night skies, and really wanted to emulate that in my work as well.
