MCCD Brochures

For this project, we were asked to create a set of three brochures about a specific location we can visit. As someone passionate about the environment, I wanted to do the set on wetlands and their importance, so I researched different conservation areas apart from the McHenry County Conservation District [MCCD]. Then, based on the location we choose we should separate the brochures out into similar, but different styles and information.

One of the ways I ensured the design was similar was the placing and sizing of the titles and subheadings on the front cover of the brochures. Another way that it is similar, is each brochure has these organic, free flowing lines in a lighter color to divide the photos from the background.

Made using all original photography from Kishwaukee Headwaters Conservation Area, along the Kishwaukee River, and the East Lagoon at NIU.

Body copy from the McHenry County Conservation District and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources websites.

Overview

Brochure One: Main Location

For the main brochure I chose to visit Kishwaukee Headwaters Conservation Area in Woodstock, Illinois, and the content included on the brochure to be about the site, its history, and other key information about the Kishwaukee river. I took photos of the site, and other photos along the river, to include. On the front and back covers, the organic line is the shape of the North Branch of the Kish, while on the inside of the brochure the lines are more loosely defined to represent the more smooth and tranquil quality of water.

Brochure Two: About the Organization

The second brochure is a broad overview of MCCD and what the organization is about. It includes what a conservation district is, the history of MCCD, volunteer information, the list of sites they contain, and other general information about them. On the front and back cover, the organic line takes the shape of a cloud to reference the cloud in the logo of the Conservation District. This brochure is blue instead of the regular green and purple color scheme to match the blue sky in the logo as well.

Brochure Three: About Wetlands

For the last brochure I wanted to highlight the importance of wetlands in Illinois. It is the more science heavy brochure. It includes information about the general geology of Illinois, glaciation, and different types of wetland communities that can be seen in the state. The organic line on the front and back cover represents the topographical map of McHenry County with photos of a lagoon interlaced into it.
