Rinse, Repeat, Renew
Overview
Rinse, Repeat, Renew is an experimental poster series that questions what is art and design, and how can we design with the materials around us. The posters are accompanied by a book written by me that documents the entire process and evaluates each experiment and final poster.
Eight of the posters are the big, open-ended questions I am asking regarding what is art and what is design. Then each of these questions got a textual response poster that have either follow up questions or statements. Lastly, two posters were pulled from the experiments to stand as a visual response to one of the questions.
The experiments and final poster series were all made by hand starting with using handmade paper that I recycled out of old test prints, failed prints, and classmates donated work as well. Then I took five different media that I associated with early design from before computers even existed and experimented with them. That includes fibers, photography, printmaking, painting, and drawing. Then I combined the different media together in the final posters taking from the experiments directly and starting anew for others.
A total of 144 sheets of paper were made, 68 experiments completed, and a 32 posters were finished for the final series.
